Amazon adds two insurance rules on November 2, 2026: $1M coverage for enhanced-safety listings even under $10k a month, and AIA-only policies for Mainland China sellers. Last reviewed: September 10, 2026

Do You Need $1 Million Amazon Insurance After November 2, 2026?

For Amazon.com sellers who saw the insurance announcement and just need to know: does this apply to me, which products, and what do I do before November 2?

Amazon is requiring more sellers to carry $1 million of liability insurance.

The old rule is still there: if you make more than $10,000 in a month on Amazon.com, you have 30 days to get that insurance.

Starting November 2, 2026, a second group has to have it too: anyone listing certain higher-risk products, even if they sell far less than $10,000 a month. That includes listings you already have.

If you sell kids’ products, cosmetics, supplements, batteries, or other products on Amazon’s higher-risk list, you need $1 million of insurance that covers those products by November 2, no matter how small you are. If your business is based in Mainland China, new insurance must be bought through Amazon’s Insurance Accelerator. This is not legal advice and not an insurance quote. Check the live pages in Seller Central.

Does this apply to me?

Yes, by November 2, if any of these is true:

  • You list kids’ products, cosmetics, ingestible products, lithium batteries, or anything else on Amazon’s higher-risk list. Sales size does not matter.
  • You already go over $10,000 in a month on Amazon.com. That old rule did not go away.
  • Your business is based in Mainland China and you will need to submit a new insurance policy. That policy has to come from Amazon’s Insurance Accelerator.

The November 2 change is smaller if you do not sell those products, you are not based in Mainland China, and you already stay under $10,000 a month. Then the old rule is still the one that matters.

What Amazon added

Who What you need
You sell over $10,000 in a month (old rule, still in place) $1 million liability insurance, within 30 days
You list higher-risk products (new) $1 million insurance that covers those products, even if you are under $10,000 a month. Old listings count.
Your business is based in Mainland China (new) New policies must come from Amazon’s Insurance Accelerator. A valid policy already uploaded before November 2 can stay until it expires.

Amazon did not raise the $1 million amount. It widened who has to show it.

Which products?

Amazon named these as examples:

  • Kids’ products
  • Cosmetics and products you ingest (like supplements)
  • Lithium battery products

That is not the full list. In Seller Central, open Product categories with enhanced safety listing requirements. Amazon says the list can grow.

Sellers looking at that page in early September 2026 also saw things like small kitchen appliances, mattresses, tires, helmets, and generators. Use the live page, not a screenshot from a group chat. One listing is enough. Inactive listings still count.

This is not only a toys-and-vitamins rule. A power bank or an air fryer can put you in it.

If you already have insurance

You are only done if the policy actually covers the products you list, is for $1 million, and Amazon will accept the paperwork.

Ask your broker these questions:

  • Does this policy cover the products I sell on Amazon, including the higher-risk ones?
  • Is it $1 million of coverage?
  • Is Amazon listed as an additional insured (usually “Amazon.com Services LLC and its affiliates and assignees”)?
  • Does the company name on the policy match the legal name on my seller account?

We do not sell insurance. If you need a policy, get a quote now. This is not a same-day upload.

If you are based in Mainland China

Amazon Insurance Accelerator is Amazon’s list of approved insurers. Starting November 2, new policies from Mainland China sellers have to come from that program. Amazon says it will reject new policies that did not.

If you already uploaded a valid policy before November 2, you can keep it until it expires. Then you have to switch.

This is about where the seller is based, not where the factory is. Buying from China does not put a US or EU seller into this rule by itself.

What to do before November 2

1. Check your listings

Open Amazon’s higher-risk category list in Seller Central. See if any of your ASINs are on it, including old ones you still have up.

2. Keep them, insure them, or take them down

If you keep those listings, you need $1 million of insurance that covers them by November 2. If you do not plan to sell them, taking the listing down is an option.

3. If you already have a policy, check it

Confirm it covers those products, is $1 million, names Amazon correctly, and matches your legal entity.

4. If you are in Mainland China, plan the switch

Use Amazon’s Insurance Accelerator for anything you submit on or after November 2. Note when your current policy expires.

If those products are on your account, do not wait for Amazon to email you. Check the list, then get the insurance file in order before November 2.

If Amazon already took listings down

Most of the time this is paperwork. Amazon asked for proof of insurance. The file is missing, expired, named wrong, or does not cover the products. Upload a policy Amazon will accept. That is not an appeal letter.

It is an enforcement problem if listings are already restricted and you cannot tell whether insurance is the only issue, or there is also a safety or Account Health case.

Read Amazon’s announcement. Check your catalog. Get the insurance file right if you need one. If listings are already down, that is a different conversation than shopping for a quote.

FAQ

Do I need this if I sell under $10,000 a month?

Yes, if you list products on Amazon’s higher-risk list. If you do not, the old $10,000-in-a-month rule still decides it.

Which products need insurance no matter how much I sell?

Amazon named kids’ products, cosmetics, ingestible products, and lithium batteries as examples. The full list is in Seller Central under Product categories with enhanced safety listing requirements. Check your ASINs against that page.

Does this include listings I already have?

Yes. Amazon said new and existing listings.

I already have a $1 million policy. Am I done?

Only if it covers those products and Amazon will accept the paperwork. Mainland China sellers cannot submit a new non-Accelerator policy on or after November 2.

I buy from China. Do I have to use Amazon’s Insurance Accelerator?

No, not for that reason. The rule is for sellers based in Mainland China, not for every catalog that sources there.

Can Amazon Sellers Appeal get me a policy?

No. We do not sell insurance. We help when Amazon has already restricted listings or the account is in a case. If you just need a policy, use a broker or Seller Central’s Business Insurance page.
