What Should You Do if Amazon Rejects Your Product Compliance Documents?

If Amazon rejects your product compliance documents, check the rejection reason, the product covered by the report and any missing pages, labels or photographs. Confirm that the report addresses the requirement Amazon requested and was submitted through the correct process. Ask the testing provider about any gap before paying for new testing.
Why does Amazon reject product compliance documents?
Possible reasons include a report for the wrong product, missing information, unreadable photographs, an unmet testing requirement or an incomplete provider submission. Check which document Amazon rejected. A missing label photograph needs a different response from a test report that does not cover the product.
Open the request for the affected ASIN, Amazon’s product identifier. Read the instructions for each document field. If product photographs and test reports have separate upload fields, make sure each contains the correct file.
How do you check whether a test report covers your Amazon product?
Compare the product description, model, manufacturer and relevant versions in the report with the item you sell. Check the label on a real unit, not just the listing title. The report should clearly cover that product or include it in an explained product family.
Example of a test report for the wrong lamp
You sell a rechargeable desk lamp. Your supplier sends a report for its plug-in desk lamp. The two lamps look similar, so you upload the report. Amazon rejects it.
Ask the testing provider whether the rechargeable lamp is covered anywhere in the complete report. If it is, identify the relevant page. If it is not, ask what assessment is needed for the rechargeable version. Changing the filename to “Rechargeable lamp report” would not change what was tested.
This is an illustrative example. Whether two versions can share test results requires the testing provider’s assessment.
What should you check before resubmitting a rejected test report?
- Product: does it cover the exact item or an explicitly included version?
- Requirement: does it address the testing or certification Amazon requested for that product and marketplace?
- Completeness: are all pages and requested photographs included and readable?
- Business details: are the manufacturer and other named companies correct, with any differences explained?
- Submission: should you upload the file, or must the testing provider send the results directly?
These checks help distinguish missing paperwork from missing testing. Ask the report issuer to explain genuine coverage or correct an actual error. Do not edit the report yourself.
What if the manufacturer name does not match your Amazon listing?
Find out why the names differ. Your brand, the factory and the company that arranged the test may be different businesses. Explain their actual roles and obtain supporting information from the manufacturer or report issuer. Do not rename a company on the report just to make the names match.
Check the product label, packaging, manual and manufacturer details together. If the product changed after testing, tell the provider exactly what changed and ask whether the existing report still applies.
Does the testing provider have to send results directly to Amazon?
For some product requirements, yes. Amazon uses approved testing, inspection and certification providers to validate compliance and send results directly. Check the process shown for your product. Having a PDF from the supplier is not the same as completing that provider submission.
Amazon’s testing-provider announcement explains this process for covered requirements. Ask the provider whether it has received the Amazon request, what it still needs from you and whether its submission is complete.
Do you need new testing after Amazon rejects a compliance report?
Not every rejection means you need a new test. You may need a missing page, clearer photographs or confirmation that the report covers your product. New testing may be necessary if the product or required assessment is not covered. Let the qualified provider check before you approve more work.
If the report already covers your product
Obtain the complete report and identify the page covering your product. For example, the supplier may have sent only the cover and summary, leaving out the page listing the approved versions. Also confirm how Amazon requires the results to be submitted.
If the report does not cover your product
Ask the provider which tests or assessments are missing. Confirm the product, marketplace, samples, cost, deliverables and Amazon submission process before proceeding. A general certificate with a similar title may not answer the specific requirement.
What if Amazon asks for a compliance requirement that does not fit your product?
Explain what the product actually is and why you believe the request does not apply. Include clear product photographs, labels, instructions and relevant manufacturer information. Ask for a review through the product-compliance process shown in Seller Central.
For example, if Amazon appears to have treated a decorative item as a children’s toy, explain its actual intended use and labeling with specialist support where needed. Simply saying that other sellers list similar products does not establish the correct classification. Do not change the wording while ignoring the product’s real use.
What should you send when appealing a product compliance rejection?
State the rejection issue, explain what you added or corrected and identify the relevant attachment. A short, specific explanation is more useful than a long statement that your products are high quality.
A simple resubmission example
“The previous submission did not include all pages of the test report. The complete report is now attached. The model list includes the rechargeable lamp we sell, and the attached label photograph shows the same model on the product.”
Use this only if those facts are correct. Add the actual ASIN and page number in your submission. If the provider must send results directly, complete that process as well.
Save the files you submitted and check the decision for the affected listing.
