Why Was My Amazon Seller Account Deactivated?
Amazon Sellers Appeal, operated by ASA Compliance Group and led by Or Shamosh, has handled 5,500+* seller cases since 2016.
We handle account suspensions, listing appeals and compliance cases, from the first review through submissions and follow‑ups.
An Amazon seller account can be deactivated because of policy violations, product complaints, verification problems, performance issues or a connection to another restricted account. To find your reason, open Performance Notifications and Account Health in Seller Central. Read the full deactivation message and the instructions for reinstatement.
How do you find out why Amazon deactivated your seller account?
Open the full Performance Notification for the affected marketplace, then check the corresponding issue in Account Health. The deactivation banner tells you selling is restricted; the full message usually gives more detail about the reason and required response.
Check the message beyond the email preview. Save the full wording, any affected ASINs, the date and any deadline. If you sell in several marketplaces, make sure you are reviewing the correct store. The Amazon account-deactivation appeal guide explains the Account Health process.
Is your Amazon seller account suspended or just one listing?
An account deactivation restricts selling at the account level. A listing restriction affects a particular product or offer. If your account remains active and only one product is unavailable, check that listing’s reason before preparing an account-level appeal.
An ASIN identifies a product in Amazon’s catalog. An unavailable ASIN may involve a policy issue, missing listing details or an ordinary stock problem. The Amazon listing reinstatement guide helps separate these situations.
What should you look for in Amazon’s deactivation message?
- The reason: which violation, complaint or verification problem is named?
- The affected account or products: does the message identify specific ASINs or marketplaces?
- The request: does Amazon want invoices, identity documents, an explanation, a questionnaire or a Plan of Action?
- The deadline: is there a date by which you need to respond?
- Where to respond: which appeal button, case or verification screen does Amazon specify?
Two deactivated accounts can need different appeals
One seller is asked for invoices after customers question whether a product is genuine. That seller needs to explain the purchases and provide the requested supplier documents.
Another seller is asked to verify the company address. That seller needs the accepted address document and matching account details. Sending inventory invoices would not answer the address question.
These are illustrative situations. Start with the reason for your own deactivation, not a generic appeal template.
What are the common reasons for Amazon seller account deactivation?
- Inauthentic product complaints: Amazon questions product authenticity or needs sourcing information.
- Restricted products: a product or listing claim may breach the rules for that marketplace.
- Intellectual property violations: a complaint concerns trademarks, copyright or patents.
- Related seller accounts: the restriction refers to another account connected to yours.
- Seller verification: identity, business, ownership or address information needs to be verified.
- Product safety: Amazon requests compliance documents or raises a safety concern.
- Account Health and performance violations: the issue concerns orders, customer experience or another seller-policy requirement.
These are starting points. The actual message determines which explanation and documents your case needs.
What if Account Health shows several violations?
Check which violation Amazon links to the account deactivation. Do not assume that the newest or most visible item caused it. A listing complaint and a business-verification request can exist at the same time and need separate responses.
Write a short list with the issue, what Amazon requested, what you sent and what is still outstanding. If one message says documents were accepted but the account is still deactivated, ask which requirement remains open and refer to that acceptance.
How do you prepare an Amazon seller deactivation appeal?
- Save the full deactivation message and any previous appeals.
- Identify the specific problem Amazon wants addressed.
- Gather the relevant invoices, business documents or product information.
- Make any required corrections and explain what you actually changed.
- Submit the response through the route Amazon provides.
A Plan of Action is useful when that process asks you to explain the cause, corrective actions and prevention. Other processes may ask for documents or a questionnaire instead. The Amazon seller suspension appeal guide explains how to prepare the right response.
Can a deactivated Amazon seller account be reinstated?
Some deactivated seller accounts can be reinstated after the seller addresses the suspension reason and Amazon accepts the appeal. The outcome depends on the violation, supporting documents, account history and response options available. A deactivation banner alone does not establish whether your particular case is eligible.
After acceptance, check the account’s selling status and each affected listing. If Amazon rejects the appeal, use the rejected-appeal checklist before sending another version. If you are waiting for a reply, see how long Amazon takes to review an appeal.
